RII30815 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations

Course Details

This course is designed to provide new participants with the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required to work in the civil construction industry. People undertaking this course could learn a range of skills including infrastructure and building site preparation, environmental and safety requirements, operation of heavy machinery and equipment, installing pipework and drainage systems and spreading and compacting materials.

Importantly, existing workers who have experience in the industry but do not have recognised qualifications can also utilise this course as means of getting their current skills and competencies recognised through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

The Study Area

Engineering, Automotive and Mining, Civil construction plant operator, building.

The training can be delivered entirely on site at the employers premises and the structure is negotiated to meet the operational requirements of the business. This will include scheduled face to face visits by the AST Training mentor who will also provide ongoing support and mentoring via email, telephone or visits for the duration of the program. All resources including manuals, assessment and reference materials will be provided.

Units are assessed by various methods including: theory, practical, oral questioning, log books and demonstration (simulated and realistic). Assessments are continuous throughout the traineeship and include on the job assessing.

A Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) process will be undertaken prior to the commencement of the training to identify the skills and knowledge the person has acquired through work experience, formal and informal training and / or general life experience. Once the AST Training trainer confirms the evidence of current competency a training plan can be negotiated.

Assessment Outcome

Students will be marked either Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC) for each unit of competency. Students found to be NYC will be given a further two opportunities to prove competence in that unit.

All participants undertaking machinery training will need to purchase a "Training kit" per machine.Price/s may vary for these courses if equipment needs to be hired for training purposes.
