S123 - Mine Site Supervisor

 

Course Overview

This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to:

  • communicate in the workplace.
  • conduct safety and health investigations.
  • apply risk management processes in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Note: The terms Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) are equivalent and generally either can be used in the workplace. In jurisdictions where the National Model WHS Legislation has not been implemented RTOs are advised to contextualise the unit of competency by referring to the existing State/Territory OHS legislative requirements.

This nationally recognised training course meets the requirements to hold a supervisor’s position as per the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999. Participants will learn about communication, risk management and conduct safety and health investigations within the mining and resources industry.

COURSE OUTCOMES

Participants who successfully complete this course will gain the knowledge and skills to perform duties of a mine supervisor or leading hand and those how are elected as a site safety and health representative.

If successful you will receive a Statement of Attainment to show competency.

 

DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT

This course is delivered and assessed face to face.

There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.

  • Live training facility – courses run at our unique training facilities, giving students the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a real working environment.
  • On the job training – our trainers may come to your workplace to deliver theory and conduct practical skills training and assessments. This must be arranged prior to course commencement. We may require a site visit prior to booking.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Entrants will need a level of:

  • language and literacy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course.
  • an understanding of written and spoken English.
  • using a range of communications techniques and equipment
  • complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

 

Successful completion of three (3) units of competency listed below: 

RIIRIS301D – Apply risk management processes
RIICOM301 – Communicate Information
RIIWHS301 – Conduct safety and health investigations
